Today the USMNT announced their 40-man provisional Gold Cup roster. So did Honduras. Orlando City SC defender Danilo Acosta was not in the USMNT provisional Gold Cup roster, but he was in the Honduras provisional gold cup roster. Danilo Acosta has never represented the senior USMNT before, although has represented the United States U-20 team. Danilo Acosta is eligible to represent the Honduras National Team or USMNT. The call-up to the Honduras provisional roster doesn’t mean he has chosen Honduras over USMNT. He could be dropped from the final roster or simply choose not to play for them.

MLS has officially announced that the MLS All-Stars will host Atlético Madrid on July 31st, 2019 in Orlando, Florida. Last year MLS All-Stars hosted Juventus at home in Atlanta. Antoine Griezmann who has been rumored to join the MLS at some point in his career will participate in the game in Orlando.
Official: Orlando City has officially signed Swedish defender Robin Jansson. The 27-year-old center back will be joining Orlando City after recording 25 starts last season with the current defending Swedish champions AIK. The 6’2 defender has previously played for BK Häcken, FC Trollhättan, IK Oddevold, and most recently AIK Fotboll. He has also made a total of just 1 appearance for the Swedish international team.
The 2019 Major League Soccer season is upon us as the league has gone through another offseason filled with marquee signings. With the product improving year and years, more clubs have expanded their wallet in order to get top signings. Without further ado, let’s take a look at some of them:
Gonzalo “ Pity “ Martinez - Atlanta United
The reigning MLS Cup Champions lost their best player, Miguel Almiron to Newcastle United on a record-breaking deal but responded quickly by signing the Argentinan. Martinez gained a lot of buzz in South America while playing for River Place as one of the best players the region has to offer. Under new Atlanta boss Frank de Bour, Pity is set to make some fireworks alongside Golden Boot winner Josef Martinez and other very talented pieces such as Ezequiel Barco, Darlington Nagbe and Hector Villalba.
Nani - Orlando City
Orlando City has been at the bottom of the league pyramid even since their arrival back in 2015 but that might change with them signing the 32-year-old Portuguese international, their biggest addition since signing Brazilian legend Kaka. The former Manchester United winger joins the Lions a brief stint at Sporting Lisbon. Nani still showed he still had something left in the tank during his time in his home country, picking up seven goals in 16 league appearances. If he can still contribute at his age, the Lions have a chance of being competitive following an absolutely abysmal 2018 season.
Alexandru Mitriță - NYCFC
Following the departure of David Villa, New York had to get their replacement for the Spaniard down. They did that by signing Mitriță from Universitatea Craiova. The winger had the Romanian League on watch, scoring 22 league goals in just two seasons. Although Romania does not have the best of leagues, the 24-year-old has shown he can put the ball in the back of the net. With high expectations on his shoulders, Mitriță will be key for the blue side of NYC to make a deep run come postseason.
Marco Fabian - Philadelphia Union
After the Union made the playoffs, they had one major problem they had to address in the winter: Finding a replacement for Borek Dockal. Philly got their new #10 by signing long-time Mexico National Team player Marco Fabian. Fabian has shown to be a good player but has had his fair share of injuries over the years. If he can stay healthy this season, the Union could be an under-the-radar playoff team if they make it.
This article, written by @the.lion.den, provides an in-depth analysis of Orlando City's 2019 campaign along with several factors that will determine whether Orlando City can make it to the playoffs for the first time in their 5 seasons within MLS.
Its really no surprise to the average MLS, or even Orlando City fan that many of the so called "experts", have Orlando City finishing in the bottom 3 of the Eastern Conference (Baer- 9th, Carr- 12th, Davies- 9th, Doyle- 12th , Warshaw- 11th, and Wiebe- 11th). However, to true City fans such as me, someone taking the time to read this article, or one who follows me on Instagram (@The.Lion.Den), this is a bit surprising, especially considering the preseason results we just experienced. All of that being said, this could be a blessing, that the pressure is off our backs and nobody expects us to make a move.
Although the majority of the preseason games were closed doors, the final scores were released to most games. Orlando City really caught fire during the last 3 of 4 official preseason matches, scoring 10 goals, to the 7 conceded (3 of the conceded goals came in 1 game, while the other 3 games opponents scored either, 0, 1 or 2 goals on the lions). The last 4 preseason match results are below as follows:
*Orlando City vs New England Revolution: (6-2) W
*Orlando City vs NYCFC: (2-1) W
Orlando City vs Philadelphia Union: (4-1) L
Orlando City vs Louisville City (USL): (1-0) W
*Orlando City Invitation- held at Orlando City Stadium, and open to public
The MLS regular season consists of 34 matches. A team in the Eastern Conference will play the 11 other teams in the Eastern Conference 2 times (one home/one away), and will play each Western Conference team 1 time (either home or away, opposite location of the previous seasons' match). Either way, Orlando City is going to have a playoff worthy year. Last year the lions were 8-4-22 (W-T-L), and tallied just 28 points in 34 games, earning a 12th place in the Eastern Conference and 22nd place in MLS. This year the lions will be lead by Portuguese superstar Luis Nani, sophomore midfielder Chris Muller out of the Univresity of Wisconsin, and MLS All-star Dom F***ing Dwyer (HE SCORES WHEN HE WANTS!!). I am predicting the lions will have a solid 6th place finish (with new playoff rules 8 teams from each conference make the playoffs) and tally 53 points over 34 games.
Thank you for reading this article, best of luck to Orlando City and other MLS teams (besides Atlanta),
Report: According to multiple reports, Orlando City SC is currently finalizing a deal with Portuguese international Luis Nani. I will be asking my personal inside sources to confirm the negotiations. This deal will be making Luis Nani a DP player for Orlando City SC. Luis Nani has been rumored to join the club in the past but nothing ever happened. Most recently, Luis Nani starting following multiple MLS accounts on social media and hinting a deal with the MLS club. The Portuguese 32-year-old veteran is very well known for being a previous star at Manchester United a couple years ago. Nani, 32, has seven goals in 16 league appearances for Sporting this season. He has featured 129 times for the club, but made his name at Manchester United, where he had 40 goals and 73 assists in 230 matches. Nani also featured for Fenerbahce, Lazio and Valencia in recent years.
Rumor: According to Championat, 22-year-old Venezuelan striker Andres Ponce is currently being targeted by Orlando City SC. Orlando City has already submitted a $300,000 bid for the Venezuelan striker. Ponce has previously played for Deportivo Táchira, Llaneros de Guanare, Sampdoria, Olhanense, Lugano, Livorno, FeralpiSalò, and currently plays for Anzhi Makhachkala in the Russian league.
—By now it’s well known (hopefully) that Orlando City kicks off their season against NYCFC, on March 2nd at 2:30pm. But what leads up to this season opener could determine what the rest of the season entitles
Orlando City will finish up their preseason in Bradenton (FL) this week, where they train 2 times per day. This includes a morning and afternoon session. The team meets at about 6:30 every morning for breakfast and whatever else Head Coach James O’Connor wants to do. The lions will end their week in Bradenton with a closed door scrimmage against the New York Red Bulls.
Many people have questioned whether Dom Dwyer is having an issue with the club, as the star striker has not been included in any of the early photos or videos posted by the club. The answer to this? Nobody knows. Although Dwyer was at the MLS Player Conferences, which only a select number of players attended, it could not have possibly taken this long for him to return. We will have to wait and see.

Rumor: Orlando City are apparently very close to acquiring Jhegson Méndez the Ecuadorian 21-year-old after reportedly already transferring to MLS. Jhegson currently plays in Independiente del Valle in Ecuador’s first division but has one appearance with Spanish team Cultural Leonesa. Jhegson was last rumored to join Brazilian team Atletico Paranaense but failed to complete the move not that long ago. Now according to multiple reports coming out of Ecuador and Brazil, he has already been transferred to MLS & will become an Orlando City SC player very soon. He has 5 appearances with the Ecuadorian national team.
