The 2018 season is over, and teams and players are looking forward to 2019. However, it’s always a good idea to look back and reflect on this past season. Throughout the week, I am going to be assessing each player of the 2018 SKC roster based on position. We start with the goalkeepers, easily the most set position for 2019.
Melia had another stellar season as one of the best keepers in the league. He stopped numerous 1v1s, penalty kicks, and arduous shots. There were a few times when he and the defense had difficulty dealing with balls coming from wide areas, but he is undoubtedly still a top 5 goalkeeper in the league. At age 32, Melia will be back for his 5th season as an SKC player in 2019.
Adrian Zendejas & Eric Dick
For the majority of the season, one of these players was on the bench behind Melia, and the other was starting for the Swope Park Rangers. Zendejas does seem to have the edge over Dick, as he started two US Open Cup games over both Dick and Melia. Both of these young keepers will be back next year, and hopefully, they can further develop their play and consistency by getting more game minutes.
